The crèche currently serves sixty-six children. All of the children come from the surrounding rural community. Some of the children are orphaned or vulnerable children, meaning that they have lost one or both of their parents and are currently living in poverty. All of the children are Zulu, so the first language of the children is isiZulu. The Zulu culture is full of color, dance and music. It is the desire of Ntshongweni Crèche to encourage the children to learn about their culture, while sharing the truth of Christ as our Savior. There are children who come to our crèche that belong to African traditional churches where ancestor worship and the belief in the power of muti (traditional medicines or rituals) to curse or bless someone. What a blessing it is for us to share the love of Christ and the peace of knowing that Christ hears our prayers without needing anyone or anything else to communicate for us. We are thankful that several of the kids at crèche also attend the Ntshongweni Lutheran Church. It has been nice to extend Christian education throughout the week and see new children that attend our crèche start coming to the church.
