A tall man, Victor Verruck squats down on the packed dirt of the open air classroom amid a swarm of smiling brown faces. His genuine patience and love are evident in his manner as he shares the story of a loving Savior with the Guarani Indian children of impoverished rural Paraguay. As with each child, Victor helped each one write their name while emphasizing the theme God Knows Your Name.
Children’s Christian Concern Society is blessed to partner with directors such as Victor to bring the Good News of Jesus to children through education. Through this partnership, CCCS supports the CPTLN Little Bible School projects at nine sites by providing teaching materials. While volunteers in the local Lutheran churches hold weekly Bible schools, Victor makes monthly hikes to these remote locations and inner- city cites and oversees the programs.
On a recent trip to Paraguay, Dr. Edith Jorns, CCCS Projects Director, commented on Victor’s leadership. “He’s just so passionate about everything he does. The challenge is letting people know what dedicated and passionate people there are in the International Lutheran Hour Ministries’ programs. When he went into those preschools, the kids just ran to put their arms around him. The parents greeted him warmly, too. When we visited the Ascuncion Little Bible School in the garbage district, we were told the taxi drivers wouldn’t go into these neighborhoods. Yet Victor was well known and well loved by all.”
In Latin America, Lutheran Hour Ministries is known as CPTLN, Cristo para Todos Las Naciones or, in English, Christ for All the Nations.
I’m sending you this letter to thank you for helping me to continue studying in this school. My father just died of leukemia, and I want to continue my studies. Especially in a school that teaches people to learn about Jesus. Without this help, it would be impossible for me to go to school. I have a mother and 4 brothers and one is sick and needs an operation. Everything bothers me because I don’t want to have to leave school. I promise you I will be a good student, study hard and not defraud you.
This school is one I really like, especially because of the religious teaching. It is very important that I have your support to continue studying.
