CCCS supports the Bright Stars program for Dar al-Kalima Lutheran School; this after school enrichment program enhances the Spiritual needs of students trapped behind the 27’ walls surrounding the city. Art, music, dance and sports, all in a Christian setting, are emphasized.
Many non-Christians send their children to this 150 year old school because of its academic excellence and “whole child” emphasis. Fifty two percent of the students are Muslim and 42% are Christian.
At Dar al-Kalima Lutheran school in Bethlehem, morning devotions focus on Christian values incorporating Bible stories of individuals that are also in the Quran. These stories are always told from the Christian narrative. The school offers Christian education lessons as part of it curriculum, and it is obligatory for all school students, both Christians and Muslims, to attend. All Students celebrate Christian holidays such as Christmas, Easter and Reformation Day. Special holiday programs enable all of the students (Christian and Muslim) to participate and better understand the meaning of each Christian occasion.
The CCCS supported Bright Stars extracurricular program is a bright spot in the lives of children at Dar al-Kalima. Because of the poverty and oppression in the Palestinian environment, the Bright Stars program provides activities, outlets, and events that are essential to a well-rounded and holistic education. Many of these children would not otherwise have such an opportunity and education to prepare them for the future.
The Christian influence is extremely important for these young Muslims and, of course, the spiritual growth of these young Christians. As they learn and associate with each other, it could well be the only road to peace.
Pray for the efforts of dedicated Lutherans like Pastor Raheb, the children and teachers and for the CCCS support at Dar al-Kalima.
