Our liaison for Nigeria is Annette Wolfer. She and her husband are former missionaries who served in that country. Annette relates, “The faith of the Nigerian Lutherans is very strong. They know their Bible well and many have an altar in their homes for family worship.”
Esther, our Project Director in Nigeria, writes “In Nigeria, we are grateful to God because in the South, Christian faith dominates. While in the North, the hostility of Islam is very strong. There is frequent violence and destruction of life and property—often Lutherans are affected. However, we remain faithful with our children. One of recent incident with a family near Jos (Central Nigeria) while we were celebrating our Jubilee (75th Anniversary of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria) was the burning of the entire house of brother Jopang, but leaving only the family altar—where the family gathers for devotions.”
The schools supported by the CCCS are in the southern region. Although they have more peace, lack of proper medical care and nutrition contributes to a short life expectancy. “Two years ago a young pastor died leaving behind three young children. Just, August 30, 2011, we buried another young pastor, who left behind a wife and seven children.”
Prayer Request: That God would provide more money for scholarships, library books and a school bus.
