The scholarship children received two uniforms, two pairs of socks, a pair of shoes and a backpack with school supplies for the entire school year. Some of these students attend the secular school in the morning and in the afternoon go to their church for Christian education. The teachers give special help with the Spanish and math lessons but their real focus is on God’s love for us. Bible stories are taught with flannel graphs and puppets. The children learn the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments. “The two hours of Christian education pass very quickly. The students do not want to finish yet, but when the last sentence is said, some are happy to say good bye to their teachers. Other children motivated by curiosity ask questions then ponder what they have learned as they go home.”
