Since the beginning, Guatemala has become almost synonymous with CCCS. Prayers are needed for the newly formed CCCS Committee of Guatemala.CCCS Guatemala oversees eighteen projects and provides coordination and support for CCCS sites in Guatemala.
New mission starts are finding support from familiar faces. Traveling to Cabanas, the desolation and poverty are evident on the outskirts of the city. With a heart for mission, former CCCS student Cipriano Mendez Bustamante accepted the call as principal in this village outside Zacapa. A family from his public school approached Cipriano and asked for help in starting a house church. Ciprioano requested mentoring and assistance from two fellow CCCS graduates, Carlos Figueroa (Director of the CCCS Home for Students in Zacapa) and Pastor Luis Jasinto of Gualan. Regular services and Bible school programs now highlight the home church’s programs. Carlos notes, “We are praying our Lord God opens the windows of heaven so CCCS can support many nations in education and spiritual growth from the Word of God so His word will not return void but bring life to many adolescent children.”
Martha Charlene is 9 years old. She was born in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala. She studies at Cristo El Salvador in third grade. Although this is her first year as a scholarship student, she took first place in the Honor Roll of her grade. Her favorite classes are math, Christian education, and art. Her dream is to become a teacher so she can teach children. Martha and her parents live in a house owned by her grandmother because they cannot afford their own home. Martha started to go to church last year. In March, she began to bring her father and mother to church at our invitation. She likes to attend church and Sunday school every Sunday. She has learned the Ten Commandments, The Lord’s Prayer, the Apostles’ Creed and many Bible stories. She says she loves learning about God and is very happy because now her mom and dad go with her to church.
Prayer request: That many more parents will faithfully attend church with their children.
