 Cambodia

Established: 2010
Sites: 2    Children Served: 32

Cambodia is less than 2% Christian with 95% of the population Buddhist and 3% Muslim. CCCS assistance is requested to improve the reading skills of students. Childhood illiteracy is of great concern as are the slum children who are so poor they are unable to buy clothes of any kind to attend school. CCCS provides funding for teachers’ salaries, plus tuition and school clothing for children who live in slum areas.

In Cambodia, five churches are providing a unique opportunity by offering English Classes. Mr. Vichet writes, “All of the children long for this program as they all know that it is very important to build this skill to get a good job in the future. We bring some educational activities from Sunday school to English class. During a five day session, we pick one or two days to teach English Bible verses, Bible stories and English Christian songs. Those students are really enjoying their study.”
