 Facts about Bangladesh

Bangladesh
  • Officially known as the People's Republic of Banladesh located in South Asia
  • Slightly smaller than Iowa
  • Population: 158,570,535
  • Religions: Muslim 89.5%, Hindu 9.6%, other .9%
  • Official Language: Bengali
Many people in Bangladesh are landless and forced to live on and cultivate flood-prone land.  There are waterborne diseases prevalent in surface water, with water pollution, especially of fishing areas.  Their ground water is contaminated by naturally occurring arsenic.  There are intermittent water shortages because of falling water tables in the northern and central parts of the country. The country is severely overpopulated.
