Bangladesh is a Muslim nation where less than 1% of the population is Christian. CCCS and People of the Book Lutheran Outreach (POBLO) visited sites in Baniarcher and Mirpur and helped lay the cornerstone for the new school in 2008. Today, the school is thriving and entire communities and families are reached with the Gospel.
Though the community residents are all generally challenged financially, CCCS scholarship criteria is based on the parents’ employment situation, the number of parents in the family or the child’s living arrangement since some are orphaned and live with a relative. In every case, consideration is given to those deemed to be in the greatest need. Through the schools’ Bible curriculum, Sunday Schools and worship services, many children are growing in their understanding of God’s love for them through Jesus Christ. The children who attend these schools are still very young and are from mixed backgrounds (Christian, Muslim and Hindu). Teachers and pastors work together to share God’s Word with the whole family. The teachers and pastors visit the school families one by one in their homes and are able to share more of the Gospel with the children and their parents.

Pastor Monotosh of Bangladesh wrote: Sreebash Bosu is a fourth grader at Masurkul Lutheran Church School. Sreebash’s family was Hindu and worshiped together at a temple near their house. As a child, he has observed the Hindu practice of worshipping idols. He has also seen the artisan’s build idols with straw, bamboo, and clay. Sreebash started to think, “Why do people worship idols that cannot speak or move?” In his Christian school he learns about religion in every subject through singing, praying and discussing the Bible story. An evangelist visited the Bosu family regularly, each time sharing God’s word. Slowly, the whole family began to understand what Sreebash was learning in school. They stopped going to the Hindu temple for worship because they now believe that Jesus is their Lord and Savior. Sreebash and his family were baptized and now regularly attend worship at the Lutheran Church.
Prayer request: That the good news of the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, will fill the hearts of all children who live in Bangladesh.
